Confirming the decision, the Ministry stated that the young girl has undergone counseling and currently does not have any pressing health concerns.

Furthermore, they emphasized that Naa Ayemuede is not pregnant, addressing any speculation regarding her health status.

This response stems from recent controversy surrounding the marriage ceremony involving the 63-year-old priest, Nuumo Borketey Laweh XXXIII, and a 12-year-old girl.

According to the office, the marriage ceremony was part of a sacred tradition wherein the young girl, known as Naa Okromo, was chosen by the Gborbu deity to dedicate her life to serving the god.

Speaking at a press conference on April 2, 2024, Director of Administration at the Office, Rev. Dr. Daniel Nii Gyasi Ankrah, provided clarification on the matter.

He explained that Naa Okromo is destined to occupy the esteemed stool of Naa Yoomo Ayemuede, a position reserved for individuals of specific lineage and indigenes of Nungua.

“The role of Naa Yoomo Ayemuede is deeply rooted in tradition and religion, serving vital functions in ceremonies and rituals related to the Gborbu deity,” Rev. Ankrah stated.
