The defendants had been arraigned on four counts, including conspiracy, armed robbery, and unlawful possession of arms, contravening Section 3(1) of the Robbery and Firearms (Special Provisions) Act, Cap R.11, Laws of the Federation of Nigeria, 2004.

During the trial, the defendants pleaded not guilty to the charges brought against them. However, the prosecutor from the Ministry of Justice, Mr. Bewaji Adeniji, presented compelling evidence to establish their culpability. Adeniji recounted the events of December 7, 2018, when Afolayan and Adeyemi allegedly laid siege near C.A.C No. 16, Oke-Onitea Area, Osogbo, and carried out a robbery, terrorizing residents in the process.
