Residents of Mallam, situated along the ‘borla’ road within the Weija-Gbawe Municipality, took to the streets on Thursday in a passionate protest, demanding urgent action to address the deplorable state of the 1km road in their community.

Approximately a hundred residents marched in solidarity, flanked by police officers, as they brandished placards bearing messages calling for the asphalt of their dilapidated road. Slogans like “No road, no vote” echoed their frustration and determination to see tangible improvements.

Despite the presence of a heap of stones and coarse sand along the shoulders of the road, residents expressed scepticism, dismissing it as a mere token gesture rather than a genuine effort to tackle the longstanding issue.
Abel Tetteh, the leader of the protest group, conveyed their collective disappointment with local authorities’ apparent disregard and the failure of their Member of Parliament (MP) and assembly members to address their plight.
Speaking to Citi News, Tetteh lamented the lack of progress and questioned the government’s commitment to fulfilling its promise of asphalting the roads. He pointed out the stark disparity, highlighting that while other neighbourhoods in Accra have benefited from asphalt roads, Mallam residents are still left waiting for theirs.
