The Ghana Journalists Association (GJA) has reaffirmed its commitment to safeguarding the rights of its members amidst a surge in assaults targeting journalists. Albert Dwumfuor, the President of the GJA, made this pledge at the launch of the association’s 75th Anniversary celebration held in Accra on Wednesday.

Dwumfuor highlighted the association’s determination to take decisive action against any laws or actions that undermine freedom of speech or deviate from the principles of the rule of law. He lamented recent incidents where journalists and media outlets have faced targeted attacks by political hoodlums while carrying out their professional duties.
“In recent times, journalists and media outlets have been targeted by political hoodlums while on assignment. The GJA has no choice but to take aggressive actions to combat this breach of media rights,” Dwumfuor asserted. He revealed that the association had been compelled to blacklist two prominent political figures whose followers had assaulted journalists without provocation.
