Davidson, who died on April 16, 2024, had been in palliative care in his hometown of Collie as he faced the advanced stages of his illness.

Despite a resilient six-year fight against cancer, Davidson ultimately succumbed to the disease with his family by his side.

Affectionately known as “Davo,” Davidson made a notable mark in Australian football, particularly with the West Coast Eagles.

Although his tenure with the Eagles was brief, appearing in just two games, including the club’s inaugural match against Richmond, Davidson’s impact was significant.

However, his time with the Eagles was plagued by a series of soft tissue injuries, limiting his playing opportunities.

Following his stint with the Eagles, Davidson received a second chance with the Brisbane Lions in 1990, where he played seven games before ongoing physical challenges forced him to step away from the AFL.

Returning to Western Australia in 1992, Davidson found success with East Fremantle, where he joined his brother Jeff on the field and celebrated premiership victories together.

Despite his modest AFL career statistics of nine games, Davidson’s contributions to both the Eagles and the WAFL clubs Claremont and East Fremantle were invaluable.

Beyond the numbers, Davidson’s legacy as the first player to don the #11 jersey for the Eagles will be remembered by fans and teammates alike, reflecting his enduring impact on the sport.
