Beverly LaHaye, Influential Evangelical Activist, Dies at 94

Beverly LaHaye, an influential evangelical activist known for her role in organizing a powerful conservative movement against feminist causes, including the Equal Rights Amendment and abortion rights, died at the age of 94.

She passed away on April 14, 2025, at a retirement home in El Cajon, California.

Her death was confirmed by Concerned Women for America (CWA), the public policy organization she founded and led for many years. The cause of her death was not immediately disclosed.

Mrs. LaHaye, alongside her husband, Southern Baptist minister Tim LaHaye, played a significant role in shaping the Christian right movement.

As president of CWA, she mobilized hundreds of thousands of members across the country to advocate for conservative causes, including school prayer, anti-abortion legislation, and the promotion of traditional family values.

Despite initially feeling unequipped for activism, Mrs. LaHaye embraced her role, attributing her actions to a sense of divine calling. She believed that her efforts were guided by faith and a commitment to God’s will.

In addition to her activism, Mrs. LaHaye was a devoted wife and mother. She was preceded in death by her husband and one of her sons, Lee. She is survived by three children, Linda Murphy, Larry LaHaye, and Lori Scheck, as well as several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Throughout her life, Mrs. LaHaye remained dedicated to her Christian faith and her belief in the power of grassroots activism to effect change. Her legacy continues to resonate within the conservative evangelical community.
