His resignation follows the recent dismissal of the SSNIT Director-General, Dr. John Ofori-Tenkorang, and the subsequent appointment of Kofi Bosompem Osafo-Maafo by President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo as his replacement.
According to a report by dailyguidenetwork.com, tensions had been brewing between Mr. Addo and Bosempem Osafo-Maafo, both serving as deputy Directors under Dr. Tenkorang.
This reportedly led to Mr. Addo’s decision to resign upon the promotion of Osafo-Maafo Jr. to the topmost position at the state-owned company.
Mr. Addo tendered his resignation shortly after Dr. Ofori-Tenkorang presented his handing over notes to the Board of the Trust on Friday, April 12, 2024, ahead of a Monday, April 15, deadline set by the President in his dismissal letter.
President Akufo-Addo relieved Dr. Ofori-Tenkorang of his duties on April 9, 2024, giving him until April 15 to hand over to Kofi Bosompem Osafo-Maafo, the Deputy Director-General for Investments.

In response to the changes, Pearl Nana Ama Darko, the Deputy Director-General for Operations and Benefits, was reassigned to the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA) as the Commissioner for Support Services.
President Akufo-Addo has appointed Juliana Kpedekpo as the successor to the Deputy Director-General for Operations and Benefits role and is expected to nominate a new Deputy Director-General for Investment and Development soon.
The termination of Dr. Tenkorang’s appointment was communicated in a letter signed by the Executive Secretary to the President, Nana Asante Bediatuo, which stated that Dr. Tenkorang would receive three months’ salary in lieu of notice.
Bosempem Osafo-Maafo, the newly appointed Director-General, is the son of Ghanaian political stalwart Nana Yaw Osafo-Maafo, currently serving as Senior Advisor to President Akufo-Addo.
