Dale had been battling incurable synovial sarcoma of the left lung since 2021 and had undergone surgery and chemotherapy treatments to manage the condition.

Steph McGovern, the show’s presenter, expressed her sadness on Twitter, stating she was “gutted” to hear of Dale’s passing. She praised Dale for bringing wisdom and joy to the show despite undergoing brutal cancer treatment.

Gavin Wilson from Talk TV also offered condolences, describing Dale as a much-loved lunchmate of the show.

“Steph’s Packed Lunch,” which aired on weekdays at midday until its cancellation last year, featured celebrity guests, discussions, games, and cookery segments.

According to a GoFundMe page set up by Dale’s friend Declan McColl, Dale had aspirations of becoming a geography teacher.

“Dale’s journey of life has been a fight from the start,” McColl wrote on the page, describing Dale as a lively and extroverted individual who loved playing pranks and taking leadership roles.

In March, McColl provided an update, revealing that specialists had exhausted treatment options for Dale, who was receiving end-of-life care at St Gemma’s Hospice. Dale’s health continued to deteriorate until his admission to the hospice on March 25, 2024.
