The 32-year-old has been sidelined since sustaining a knee injury during a Premier League match against Manchester City in April 2022.

Expressing his sentiments, Dallas acknowledged, “I must now accept the fact my knee suffered irreparable damage and I will not be returning to play professional football.”

Hailing from Cookstown, Northern Ireland, Dallas’s football journey began with Northern Ireland clubs Coagh United and Crusaders.

He then ventured to Brentford in 2012 before his move to Leeds in August 2015, where he etched his name into club history with 266 appearances and 28 goals.

On the international stage, Dallas earned 62 caps for Northern Ireland, notably participating in Euro 2016, a milestone achievement for his country.

Reflecting on his retirement, Dallas expressed gratitude for realizing his childhood dream of playing professional football. “This may not be how fairytales are supposed to end, but I must now deal with the fact that this chapter of my life is drawing to a close,” he remarked.

Leeds United, in a statement, lauded Dallas as “an icon” of the club, emphasizing his enduring impact both on and off the field. Despite his absence from recent matches due to injury, Dallas remained a significant figure behind the scenes.

While bidding farewell to his playing days, Leeds affirmed ongoing discussions with Dallas regarding a future role within the club, ensuring his continued association with Elland Road.

Dallas’s illustrious career includes pivotal contributions to Leeds United’s resurgence, notably aiding the club’s return to the Premier League after a 16-year hiatus and delivering standout performances in the top flight.

Leeds fans will have the opportunity to pay tribute to Dallas for his remarkable service when he and his family are honored at halftime during Saturday, April 13, 2024 Championship game against Blackburn Rovers.
