Edem Agbana, the National Democratic Congress (NDC) candidate for Ketu North, is confident that the proposed 24-hour economy policy by former President John Mahama could be the answer to the nation’s economic woes.

Mahama, the NDC’s leader, has put forth an innovative economic strategy called the 24-Hour Economy. This plan aims to motivate specific businesses and companies to function continuously, ideally in three 8-hour shifts.
The main goal of this policy is to generate lasting jobs for the people of Ghana. This will be achieved through Mahama’s plan to update and mechanize farming, stimulate the private sector, boost agro-processing and manufacturing, and convert Ghana into an economy driven by import substitution and exports.

The 24-hour economy will primarily concentrate on several sectors such as agro-processing, pharmaceuticals, manufacturing, construction, extractive industry, sanitation and waste management, leisure and hospitality, digital start-ups and Business Process Outsourcing (BPO), financial services, retail centers, transportation services, and selected public institutions with high customer traffic.
In a recent interview with Umaru Sanda Amadu on Citi FM’s Eyewitness News, Agbana expressed his concern about the current economic distress due to mismanagement. He believes that the 24-hour policy could be a game-changer.
Agbana is convinced that the 24-hour economy, as he understands it and as Mahama plans to implement it, could be the key to resolving many of the economic challenges the nation is currently facing.
