On Monday, April 8, the High Court of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) in Abuja imposed a fine of ₦10 million on actress Halima Abubakar as compensation for damaging the reputation of the renowned pastor, Apostle Suleman.
In 2022, the actress made allegations against the head of Omega Fire Ministries International, claiming that he reneged on his promise to marry her. She also asserted that he subjected her to an undisclosed severe illness that had afflicted her for years.

However, in January 2023, Apostle Suleman filed a ₦1 billion lawsuit against Ms. Abubakar for defamation.

The case proceedings commenced on March 25, 2023, overseen by Justice Enobie Obanor of the Abuja High Court. The judge observed that despite numerous opportunities and court hearings, the actress failed to present her defense.
As a result, the court ruled in favor of Apostle Suleiman, determining Ms. Abubakar’s statements as defamatory. The judgment mandated Ms. Abubakar to pay ₦10 million as aggravated and exemplary damages for libel.
Following the case, Halima posted a new picture on her Instagram profile captioning it “Filled with gratitude and the gift of life”.
