Man dies after falling into abandoned mining pit

A tragic incident has occurred in the Akrofuom District of the Ashanti Region, where a young man lost his life after falling into an abandoned mining pit.

The victim, identified only as Akwasi, was in his early 20s and reportedly engaged in illegal mining activities along with others in the area of Sibriso near Akrofuom.

According to reports from his colleagues to the police, Akwasi accidentally fell into one of the abandoned mining pits filled with water. Despite efforts to rescue him, he drowned in the pit.

Following the accident, Akwasi was quickly rushed to the Akrofuom Health Centre for medical attention. However, upon arrival, he was pronounced dead by medical personnel.

The body of the deceased has been retrieved from the mining pit and transported to the Obuasi Government Hospital Mortuary for preservation and further examination through autopsy.

This unfortunate incident serves as a reminder of the dangers associated with illegal mining activities, urging authorities to take necessary measures to prevent similar tragedies in the future.
