Rapper J. Cole has expressed regret over his recent song aimed at fellow artist Kendrick Lamar, vowing to remove the track from streaming services.

In his song “7 Minute Drill,” Cole responded to Lamar’s verse on the hit single “Like That,” asserting his dominance in the rap industry.
However, Cole’s lyrics, including comparisons to “fallen off like the Simpsons” and calling Lamar’s latest album “tragic,” sparked controversy.
Addressing the issue at the Dreamville Festival in North Carolina, Cole admitted feeling “terrible” about his response, describing it as “lame” and “goofy.” He apologized to Lamar for the misstep and expressed a desire to return to his true path in music.

The feud between the two artists began last year when Cole suggested he, Drake, and Lamar were the current hip-hop “big three.” Lamar disagreed in his verse on “Like That,” leading to Cole’s retaliatory track.
Despite pressure from peers and colleagues to engage in a rap battle, Cole expressed discomfort with the conflict, praising Lamar’s talent and hoping his peer had not taken offense.
Promising to remove or update “7 Minute Drill” from streaming platforms, Cole acknowledged that the response to the song had not sat well with him spiritually.
While it’s uncommon for rappers to retract diss tracks, Cole’s decision echoes his past experiences. In 2011, he faced similar backlash and later apologized for his actions, emphasizing his love for hip-hop and accepting responsibility for his behavior.
