According to Joeboy, social media has eliminated the era where a few top people in the industry selected and determined the prominence and breakthrough of musicians. He explained that social media has made it possible for artists to be discovered and gain popularity without the need for approval from industry gatekeepers.

“I feel like social media has broken the dodge, you know like at first there used to be gatekeepers in the industry that if this person does not accept or acknowledge you, you are not going to make it. Now all of a sudden you can just get into the industry by just posting a cover or a song of yourself singing randomly on your bed and next thing is it is getting millions of views and everybody wants to work with you and connect with you,” Joeboy explained.

However, Joeboy also acknowledged the downsides of social media. He noted that the platform can be used to create a “façade,” making it easy for people to be misled. He gave an example of how he could post a picture in front of a jet, and bloggers might report that he has bought a jet, leading people to believe it as fact.

Joeboy is currently in Ghana for his party, ‘Lavida Night,’ which aims to provide a one-on-one space to connect with his fans in Ghana. The musician started the event last year, and it has become a popular gathering for his fans in Ghana.
