Govt Places Minor Allegedly Married to NunguaPriest Under Protection of Gender Ministry

The Ministry of Information says the 16-year-old girl who is reportedly married to Gborbu Wulomo, the High Priest of Nungua Traditional Council is currently under the protection of the Police Service and the Gender Ministry.

In a statement released by the government, it emphasised the importance of safeguarding vulnerable individuals from exploitation and harm. Gender Minister-designate Dakoa Newman, along with other officials, has personally visited the girl to assess her condition, confirming that she is in good health.

To address the immediate needs of the minor, comprehensive support measures have been put in place, including access to counselling services, medical attention, and the provision of two caregivers to ensure her comfort and security.

Furthermore, the Ghana Police Service has launched an investigation into the matter, gathering statements from Gborbu Wulomo Shitse and the child’s parents.

In addition to the police investigation, discussions have been initiated by the Minister for Chieftaincy and Religious Affairs with the Nungua traditional authorities. These discussions aim to secure the full cooperation of traditional leaders in safeguarding the best interests of the child and preventing similar incidents from occurring in the future.
