Gold Medalist Mohammed Aryeetey, who emerged victorious at the 2023 African Games, has disclosed the challenges he faced to secure a spot on Ghana’s boxing team for the prestigious event.

Recounting his journey to success, Aryeetey revealed that there was initially no provision for him to participate in the Games, prompting him to take action to rectify the situation.
Despite the hurdles, Aryeetey managed to secure a place on Ghana’s boxing team and ultimately clinched one of the nation’s four gold medals in the sport.
His remarkable feat came after defeating Tulembekwa Zola Livens in a gripping match held at the Boxing Arena in the Trust Sports Emporium, Bukom.
Reflecting on his experience during an interview on Prime Morning, the James Town-based boxer disclosed, “It came to a time that I had to plead to join the team [for the African Games] which was not supposed to be. I had to do it because there were a lot of politics going on in the team.”

Aryeetey’s determination and perseverance paid off as he emerged victorious in the final match, securing a unanimous decision and cementing his status as a gold medalist.
During his interview, Aryeetey highlighted the sacrifices he made to compete at the highest level, including undergoing rigorous training sessions during the team’s camping period in Cape Coast.
Looking ahead, Aryeetey expressed his desire to participate in the upcoming 2024 Olympic Games qualifiers scheduled to take place in Thailand next month.
He emphasized his readiness to represent Ghana once again on the international stage and urged for the opportunity to showcase his talent and dedication.
