Olive The Boy Reveals ‘Asylum’ Song Originated from a Heartbreak Experience

Afrobeats artist, Olive The Boy, has revealed that a painful breakup inspired his new single ‘Asylum’. Born as Joel Ofori Bonsu, Olive shared that ‘Asylum’, released on March 1 this year, was composed even before his popular track ‘Goodsin’.

In a TV3 interview with Cookie Tee, he explained that the song was a result of a heartbreak from a past relationship two years ago.

The 21-year-old artist felt the need to express his feelings through music due to his deep love for the girl, whose name he chose not to disclose. He mentioned that he occasionally hears from her and she wishes to reconcile, but he believes there are plenty of other opportunities out there.

In other news, Olive has expressed his thoughts about his nominations for the upcoming Telecel Ghana Music Awards. The ‘Goodsin’ singer has been nominated in three categories: Best New Artist of the Year, Most Popular Song of the Year, and Best Afrobeats Song of the Year.

OliveTheBoy’s musical journey began in 2020, shortly after completing his high school education at Opoku Ware Senior High School in Kumasi, Ashanti Region, Ghana. His passion for music led him to release his debut EP titled “Avana” in May 2023.
