Barbara Baldavin, Renowned Actress of ‘Star Trek’ and ‘Medical Center’ Fame, Passes Away at 85

Barbara Baldavin, a celebrated actress known for her memorable roles in ‘Star Trek’ and ‘Medical Center,’ has passed away at the age of 85.

Baldavin succumbed to congestive heart failure at her residence in Manhattan Beach, California, on March 31, 2024.

In 1966, Baldavin made her mark in television history with her portrayal of phaser control officer Angela Martine in two first-season episodes of NBC’s iconic series ‘Star Trek.’

Her performance, notably in the episode where her character’s wedding to Starfleet officer Robert Tomlinson was interrupted by a Romulan attack, earned her acclaim among fans of the science fiction franchise.

Following her stint on ‘Star Trek,’ Baldavin embarked on a recurring role as Nurse Holmby in CBS’ medical drama ‘Medical Center.’

Transitioning behind the scenes in the 1980s, Baldavin lent her expertise to the casting departments of several notable television productions, including ‘Hagen,’ ‘Square Pegs,’ ‘Dynasty,’ and ‘Trapper John, M.D.’

Her contributions to the industry extended beyond acting, showcasing her multifaceted talents and commitment to the craft.

Born in Quincy, Massachusetts, Baldavin discovered her passion for acting while attending El Camino College in Torrance, California.

She honed her skills at the Lee Strasberg Institute, further refining her craft and paving the way for a successful career in entertainment.

Outside of her professional endeavors, Baldavin shared a close friendship with the late Dawn Wells, best known for her role in ‘Gilligan’s Island.’

Baldavin is survived by her son, Joseph, and her grandchildren, Casandra and Justine. She was previously married to Joseph D’Agosta, a renowned casting director who worked on ‘Star Trek’ and other Desilu series.
