According to ECG, GRIDCo has reduced power supply to its Cape Coast and Kasoa Bulk Supply Points, affecting areas like Praso, Ajumako, Mankessim, and more.

Affected areas also include Bawjiase township, New Market, and nearby communities.

In response, ECG assures affected customers that power will be restored once GRIDCo resumes supply, apologizing for any inconvenience caused.

‘Dumsor,’ an Akan term meaning ‘off-on,’ has become synonymous with Ghana’s persistent power outages.

The Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) faces mounting pressure to release a load-shedding timetable, with the Ghana Medical Association (GMA) joining the call.

This was after a viral video on social media where a woman claimed her three-day-old baby died in an incubator during power outages at Tema General Hospital. However, the hospital denied any link between the power outage and the infant’s death.

Acting General Secretary of GMA, Dr. Richard Selormey, highlighted the impact of erratic power outages on hospital operations. He emphasized that stable electricity is vital for hospital administration and treatment.

Dr. Selormey further stressed that unexpected power cuts disrupt the entire healthcare sector, leading to potential complications in patient care.

The GMA’s call for a load-shedding timetable underscores the importance of reliable electricity supply in healthcare settings. Uncertain power supply poses significant challenges to hospitals, affecting not only patient care but also administrative tasks.
