Undersea Cables Set to Be Restored by May 9 to Address Network Disruptions – NCA

The National Communications Authority (NCA) has provided an update on the ongoing repair works to restore disrupted internet connectivity.

It has been announced that barring any unforeseen circumstances, the full restoration of the undersea cables that disrupted internet connectivity is expected to be completed by May 9, 2024.

These cables play a crucial role in maintaining reliable communication networks, and their restoration will alleviate the disruptions experienced by users.

In its latest update, the NCA mentioned that it is closely monitoring the repair progress with the four Submarine Cable Service Providers – SAT-3, ACE, WACS, and MainOne. Two ships are involved in the repair process.

SAT-3’s repair ship, which left Cape Town, South Africa, on 19th March 2024, is expected to reach the fault area on 29th March 2024 to start the repair work. The completion of SAT-3’s repair work is anticipated by the second week of April.

MainOne, WACS, and ACE are working together and have commissioned a second repair ship. This ship, which departed from London, UK, on 24th March 2024, is expected to reach its first repair site by 8th April 2024.

The NCA expects ACE to finish its repairs by 17th April 2024, WACS by 28th April 2024, and MainOne by 9th May 2024. The NCA reminds the public that these dates are provisional and will provide updates if there are any changes.
