After considering the risks associated with surgical intervention, Mayor Henry opted for comfort measures, choosing to rest comfortably under the care of skilled hospice nurses.

Mayor Henry’s battle with late-stage stomach cancer was made public on February 26, 2023, during a news conference.

Despite undergoing chemotherapy treatments since March 2023, his prognosis remained challenging as the cancer spread to his lymph nodes and other organs.

Elected to his fifth term as mayor in November, Mayor Henry faced the immense personal challenge of coping with his own health issues while continuing to serve the city of Fort Wayne.

Tragically, his wife, Cindy, had also battled cancer and passed away on January 20, 2024, after a year-long fight against pancreatic cancer.

Mayor Tom Henry leaves behind a legacy of service, compassion, and dedication to the people of Fort Wayne.
