Walt Wesley, a basketball icon hailing from Fort Myers, Florida, passed away on March 28th, 2024, at the age of 79 after battling Leukemia. He breathed his last at the Moffitt Cancer Center.

Wesley left a great mark on the basketball world, starting with his stellar career as a standout center for the University of Kansas Jayhawks.

His remarkable talent earned him a spot in the team’s hall of fame and two-time All-American honors. Notably, Wesley made history as the first NBA player from Fort Myers, drafted in the first round by the Cincinnati Royals in 1966. He graced the NBA courts for ten seasons.

Beyond his athletic prowess, Wesley returned to Fort Myers after retiring from the NBA, serving as the director of the STARS Complex.
