Gogglebox Star George Gilbey, Aged 40, Passes Away Following Fall from Height

Television personality George Gilbey has tragically passed away at the age of 40 after a fatal workplace accident.

On March 27, 2024, Gilbey fell to his death in an incident at a warehouse in Shoeburyness, Southend-on-Sea.

Gilbey gained fame for his appearances on Channel 4’s Gogglebox, where he featured alongside his mother Linda and stepfather Pete for eight series.

His charming personality and witty commentary made him a beloved figure among viewers.

Following the news of his passing, C4 Gogglebox expressed their condolences, stating, “George was part of the Gogglebox family for eight series alongside his mum Linda and step-dad Pete. Our thoughts and deepest condolences are with Linda, and George’s family and friends at this very sad time.”

Gilbey’s stepfather, Peter McGarry, passed away in 2021 at the age of 71, adding to the family’s recent losses.

Friends and colleagues from the entertainment industry also mourned Gilbey’s passing. EastEnders actress Daniella Westbrook paid tribute to him on Instagram, sharing a photo and expressing her devastation at his loss.

Essex Police confirmed that they responded to the incident on Campfield Road after receiving reports of a man who had fallen while working at height and sustained serious injuries. An air ambulance also attended the scene.

Investigations into the circumstances surrounding Gilbey’s death are ongoing, with authorities stating that they will continue to liaise with partners, including the Health and Safety Executive.
