The decision to drop McDaniel came just two weeks after she stepped down from her position at the RNC.

The news of McDaniel’s removal was communicated to NBC staffers via an internal email sent by NBC Chairman Cesar Conde, which NPR obtained.

Conde explained that the decision to remove McDaniel was made in response to concerns that her appointment was causing disunity within the organization.

Conde stated in the email, “No organization, particularly a newsroom, can succeed unless it is cohesive and aligned. Over the last few days, it has become clear that this appointment undermines that goal.”

He further apologized to NBC team members who felt let down by the initial decision to hire McDaniel and took full responsibility for it.

The hiring of McDaniel had stirred controversy within NBC, with some of her new colleagues publicly expressing their concerns about her appointment. As a result, NBC leadership decided to reevaluate McDaniel’s contract, which was reported to be valued at $300,000 per year.
