Simona Halep’s highly anticipated return to the tennis court was met with a challenging defeat at the Miami Open against Paula Badosa, despite a strong start.

The Romanian tennis star, a former world No. 1 and two-time Grand Slam champion, made her comeback after serving a doping ban.
Halep, who had spent a total of 64 weeks at the top of the rankings, faced Badosa in her first match since the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) reduced her suspension from four years to nine months.
Halep showcased her prowess from the outset, dominating the opening set and taking it convincingly in just 38 minutes. However, Badosa, a former world No. 2 herself, mounted a resilient comeback, turning the tide of the match in her favor.

Despite Halep’s strong performance in the initial set, Badosa fought back fiercely, ultimately clinching victory with a hard-fought 1-6, 6-4, 6-3 win over the Romanian veteran.
The defeat marks a challenging return to competition for Halep, who had been sidelined following a positive test for the blood-boosting drug Roxadustat during the 2022 US Open.
Initially handed a lengthy suspension in September 2023, Halep appealed to CAS, leading to a reduction of her ban in February 2024, allowing her to resume her tennis career.
