Legendary Highlife musician, George Darko, has died. He reportedly died on Wednesday, March 20, 2024.

The cause of his death is yet to be revealed.
Born on January 12, 1951 in Akropong, Ghana, George Darko attended Presbyterian School at Akropong. Following a stint with an army band entertaining troops in the Middle East, he returned to Ghana and formed the Golden Stool Band.
In the late 1970s, the band moved to Germany, where Darko went solo and established the Bus Stop band in 1982.

Darko, known for his agilities as a guitarist, vocalist, composer, and songwriter was made Tufuhene of Akropong with the stool name Nana Apem Darko I in 1991.
The burger-highlife musician earned the VGMA Lifetime Award for Outstanding Contribution to Highlife (2020).
His songs remain among the most timeless and enduring highlife tracks in Ghana’s music scene.
George Darko’s funeral arrangement is yet to be announced by the family.
