Renowned environmentalist, business commentator, and cherished colleague, Rod Oram, has tragically passed away following a cycling accident in Auckland.

Rod, aged 73, succumbed to injuries sustained in the accident on March 19, 2024, after suffering a cardiac arrest and crashing off his bike at Ambury Park in Māngere Bridge just two days prior.

Surrounded by his loved ones, including his wife Lynn, daughter Celeste, and her husband Keir, Rod passed away peacefully, leaving behind a legacy of impactful journalism and advocacy.

A UK-born journalist, Rod Oram became a prominent figure in New Zealand’s public life, particularly known for his insightful commentary on the economy, business, and environmental issues.

Since the inception of Newsroom in 2017, Rod has been a vital contributor, offering thought-provoking columns that shed light on pressing issues facing the nation and the world.
