The summons, scheduled for Tuesday, March 19, 2024, comes in response to concerns raised by the Minority Caucus regarding new fees introduced by the company.

The controversy centers around a $20 maintenance charge for round trips and a $10 fee for one-way trips. MP for Tamale South, Haruna Iddrisu, alleges collusion between the Transport Minister and the airport company in implementing these charges.

He questions the authority under which the fees are being levied and whether they comply with Ghana’s Fees and Charges Act.

Echoing these concerns, Second Deputy Speaker, Andrew Amoako Asiamah, insists that the Transport Minister must address Parliament regarding the legitimacy of the charges.

He emphasizes that the airport company cannot unilaterally impose fees without proper authorization.

The summons underscores the importance of accountability and transparency in government operations, particularly regarding public fees and charges.

Parliament seeks clarity to ensure compliance with legal frameworks and to uphold the interests of the Ghanaian people.
