This action came following the 19-year-old’s sentencing in Finland for a rape case dating back to when he was a minor.

Ronni received a one-year suspended prison sentence from the District Court of Helsinki, as confirmed by his Finnish Elite League team, Tappara Tampere. In response to the verdict, the team promptly terminated his contract.

The Flames, who selected Ronni as the 59th overall pick in the 2022 NHL draft, also took action, announcing their decision to release him from their roster.

In a statement issued on Tappara Tampere’s website, Ronni expressed his remorse and offered an apology.

The legal proceedings against Ronni began in October 2023, leading to his withdrawal from team activities during the investigation, as announced by his Finnish team.

The incident in question took place in 2021, with specific details of the allegations against Ronni remaining undisclosed due to the sealing of case documents.
