This agreement surpasses the franchise tag value, offering Barkley a maximum average-per-year salary of $15.833M, ranking second-highest for an RB in NFL history.
Despite a challenging season with the Giants, Barkley remains a two-time Pro Bowl selection, amassing 962 yards and six touchdowns in the previous season, albeit missing three games due to a high-ankle sprain.

The 27-year-old played last season under an adjusted franchise tag, earning $10.1 million after contract negotiations fell through. With the Giants opting out of tagging him again at $12.1 million, Barkley entered free agency, ending his tenure with the Giants.
While expressing his desire to remain a “Giant for life,” Barkley turned down a previous offer guaranteeing approximately $23 million last season, as reported by ESPN sources.
Barkley bid farewell to Giants fans on social media on March 11, 2024.
