They clinched the best song trophy for their track “What Was I Made For?” from the “Barbie” soundtrack.
This marks the second Oscar win for the pop-star siblings, who previously triumphed with “No Time to Die,” the title song for the 2022 James Bond film.
At just 22 years old, Eilish has now become the youngest two-time winner in Oscar history, while O’Connell, at 26, is believed to be the second youngest dual winner.
“What Was I Made For?” was in contention alongside “I’m Just Ken,” a comic lament performed by Ryan Gosling, in the “Barbie” soundtrack.

Despite both being nominated, Eilish’s tender ballad, which offers a poignant reflection on human emotions, was widely anticipated to take home the award. Director Greta Gerwig even described it as “Barbie’s heart song.”
Although “I’m Just Ken” had a memorable on-screen performance as part of a beachfront battle and dance number in the film, Eilish’s composition added significant emotional depth to the storyline, further solidifying its status as a frontrunner.
The track had already earned recognition at the Golden Globes, Grammys (including song of the year), and the Society of Composers & Lyricists.
The popularity of “What Was I Made For?” was underscored by its impressive streaming numbers, with an estimated 633 million streams compared to the reported 105 million for “I’m Just Ken.”
With its widespread acclaim and resonance with audiences, Eilish and O’Connell’s win cements their status as musical powerhouses in the industry.
