“Anatomy of a Fall” revolves around the compelling story of a woman, portrayed by Sandra Hüller, who finds herself embroiled in a murder accusation involving her husband.

Triet and Hariri’s screenplay stood out among stiff competition, triumphing over other notable contenders like David Hemingson for “The Holdovers” and Celine Song for “Past Lives.”

Notably, “Anatomy of a Fall” marks the first non-English language film to secure victory in the Best Original Screenplay category since the groundbreaking success of “Parasite” in 2019.

The film’s win reflects its universal appeal and the profound impact of its storytelling transcending language barriers.

The accolades for “Anatomy of a Fall” extend beyond the Oscars, with the film enjoying a remarkable awards season journey.

Following its Palme d’Or win at the Cannes Film Festival in May, the film garnered recognition at prestigious ceremonies across Europe, including six European Film Awards and six César Awards.

Additionally, it received two Golden Globes, including Best Screenplay, and a BAFTA for Best Original Screenplay.

Despite its remarkable achievements, “Anatomy of a Fall” faced an intriguing twist in its Oscar journey. While it was celebrated as a frontrunner for Best International Film, France chose to submit the romantic drama “The Taste of Things” as its official entry for the category.

Nonetheless, Triet’s win for Best Original Screenplay further cements the film’s place in cinematic history.

In her acceptance speech, Triet expressed gratitude to the Academy for the prestigious honor, humorously remarking that she hoped the win would “help me through my mid-life crisis.”

She reflected on the juxtaposition between the glamour of the evening and the challenges of writing the film during lockdown, highlighting the blurred lines between work and personal life.
