North Tongu Member of Parliament, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, has voiced his opposition to the recent threats made by foreign diplomats towards Ghana regarding the anti-lgbti bill. Ablakwa firmly believes that foreign diplomats should not interfere in Ghana’s internal affairs.

Speaking on TV3’s Key Points show on Saturday, March 9, Ablakwa, who serves as the ranking member on the foreign affairs committee of Parliament, emphasized that it is crucial for diplomats to respect Ghana’s laws.
Expressing his stance on the matter, Ablakwa stated, “I don’t have issues with locals raising concerns; let’s engage in discussions where everyone’s rights are respected.”

The passing of the Proper Human Sexual Rights and Ghanaian Family Values Bill by Parliament on February 28 has sparked diverse reactions, including from the diplomatic community.

Despite concerns raised by stakeholders like the US State Department spokesperson Matt Miller about potential implications of the bill, President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo reassured that Ghana remains committed to upholding human rights standards.
In a message to the diplomatic community, President Akufo-Addo clarified that the bill had not yet been presented to him and affirmed that any decisions made would not compromise the country’s human rights progress.
