Guy Carleton Boutilier, a dedicated Canadian politician, passed away on March 8, 2024, at the age of 65.

Boutilier left a great mark on Alberta, notably in Fort McMurray. Born in 1959, his journey into politics commenced at the grassroots level.
In 1986, Boutilier clinched a seat on Fort McMurray’s city council, later ascending to become the city’s youngest mayor in 1992.
His leadership prowess saw him become the inaugural mayor of the newly established Regional Municipality of Wood Buffalo in 1995.

Transitioning to provincial politics in 1997, Boutilier secured a position as a Progressive Conservative MLA.

Throughout his tenure, he held pivotal roles within the cabinets of Premiers Ralph Klein and Ed Stelmach, notably as Minister of Municipal Affairs and Minister of International and Intergovernmental Relations.
However, his journey faced a twist when he was ousted from the PC caucus in 2009, subsequently aligning himself with the Wildrose Alliance Party.
In 2012, Boutilier bid farewell to provincial politics, leaving behind a legacy of over 15 years of service in Alberta’s Legislative Assembly.
He is survived by his wife, Gail, and children.
