The Electoral Commission (EC) is gearing up to kick off this year’s limited voter registration exercise on Tuesday, May 7, in anticipation of the December 7 general elections. Running for 21 days until Monday, May 27, 2024, the exercise is designed to capture individuals who have come of age since the last registration, ensuring their inclusion in the national voter database.

The EC plans to carry out the registration at its district offices and in remote electoral areas.

Permanent centers will be established at district offices, while mobile teams will reach out to register eligible individuals in hard-to-reach locations. The list of registration centers will be shared with political parties at least 21 days before the exercise begins.

Additionally, the EC has decided to maintain the filing fees from the 2020 elections for the upcoming 2024 presidential and parliamentary contests.

These decisions were reached during an Inter-Party Advisory Committee (IPAC) meeting held on Thursday, March 7, where leaders of political parties provided valuable insights into the 2024 Election Plan and gave their approval.

The EC expressed its commitment to implementing several suggestions put forth by the political parties and received unanimous praise for developing a comprehensive calendar for the 2024 elections.

Looking ahead, nominations for presidential and parliamentary candidates for this year’s election are set to open from September 9 to September 19.

As outlined in the schedule released on March 4, the Commission plans to share the provisional voters’ register with political parties between July 9 and July 18, 2024. Stay tuned as Ghana prepares for a crucial electoral process with these key updates from the EC.
