Ivorian President Alassane Ouattara has expressed admiration for President Akufo-Addo’s exceptional leadership and achievements, particularly during his tenure as the chairman of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS).

Speaking as the guest of honour at Ghana’s 67th Independence Day celebration held in Koforidua, Eastern Region, on Wednesday (March 6), President Ouattara commended President Akufo-Addo for his unwavering commitment to regional economic integration.

Addressing the audience, President Ouattara praised President Akufo-Addo’s remarkable performance in fulfilling his duties, stating, “You did an exceptional and outstanding job, and I did not want you to leave…I wanted you to continue for many, many years.”

President Ouattara highlighted the deep-rooted ties of geography, history, friendship, and culture between Ghana and Côte d’Ivoire, expressing great joy in joining the celebration.

He also praised the strong friendship and solidarity between the two nations, thanking Ghana’s leadership for their significant contribution to the success of the 2023 African Cup of Nations hosted by Côte d’Ivoire, which concluded in February 2024.

Furthermore, President Ouattara commended Ghana for its leadership role in demonstrating the path to “independence, dignity, and pride” over the past 67 years.

The 67th Independence Day celebration, themed “Our Democracy, Our Pride,” underscored Ghana’s enduring commitment to multi-party democracy throughout its history.
