The Philadelphia-born rapper initially sparked conversations about his interest in Ghanaian citizenship earlier this week with a tweet highlighting his dissatisfaction with what he perceives as America’s oppressive treatment of Black individuals.

“I wanna get citizenship in Ghana!!!! America made to tear black men down if you don’t follow orders!” Meek Mill tweeted on March 4, 2024.

Following up on his initial statement, Meek Mill clarified his stance on March 7, 2024, stating, “I need dual citizenship in Ghana I think I wanna go back and forth.”

Meek Mill’s affinity for Ghana is not new, as he has previously visited the country. In December 2022, he performed at the Afro Nation music festival and also had the opportunity to visit the Jubilee House, where he held a meeting with President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo.

Despite facing criticism for filming portions of a music video at the seat of government during his visit, Meek Mill has shown continued affection for Ghana.

He has since apologized to Ghanaians for any offense caused by his actions and has expressed his desire to collaborate with Ghanaian artists in the future.

As Meek Mill reiterates his desire for dual citizenship in Ghana, it remains to be seen how his relationship with the country will evolve in the coming years.
