Former professional baseball player Steve Garvey is running for the United States Senate in California in the upcoming 2024 election. From 1969 to 1987, he was a first baseman with the Los Angeles Dodgers and San Diego Padres in Major League Baseball.

The Los Angeles Dodgers selected Garvey in the first round of the 1968 Major League Baseball draft. On September 1, 1969, at 20, he made his Major League debut.
Garvey declared on October 10, 2023, that he would be a Republican candidate for the California Senate in the 2024 election. In the partial term special election primary, Garvey garnered the most votes to succeed Laphonza Butler and take up Dianne Feinstein’s vacancy.

Does Steve Garvey have a degree?
He received a BS degree from Michigan State University where he was an all-American baseball player and starting defense back on the Spartan football team. Steve resides in Southern California with his wife Candace, of twenty-two years, and their two remaining school-age children.
