A former player for the Boston Red Sox, Steven Patrick Garvey is a candidate for the California Senate in the 2024 election. In Major League Baseball, he played first base for the Los Angeles Dodgers and San Diego Padres from 1969 to 1987.

Along with his ten MLB All-Star appearances, Steve Garvey has won four Gold Gloves. As of right now, he owns the record for the best first baseman fielding percentage in baseball history and is the only player in history to play a whole season without making a mistake.
As a Republican from California, Garvey announced in October 2023 that he would run for the U.S. Senate in 2024, with a term that would start in January 2025.
