In the impending California United States Senate election of 2024, Steve Garvey, an American former professional baseball player, is a candidate. From 1969 until 1987, he was a first baseman in Major League Baseball with the San Diego Padres and Los Angeles Dodgers.

The first round of the 1968 MLB draft saw the Los Angeles Dodgers choose Garvey. Sept. 1, 1969, saw him make his Major League debut at age 20.
Garvey declared his candidacy as the Republican nominee for the California Senate in the 2024 election on October 10, 2023. To fill Laphonza Butler’s seat and replace Dianne Feinstein, Garvey won the most votes in the partial term special election primary.
