A proud member of the Republican Party, Barrasso’s journey to the Senate was preceded by a distinguished career in medicine and public service.

Born and raised in Reading, Pennsylvania, he pursued his higher education at Georgetown University, where he earned both his Bachelor of Science and Doctor of Medicine degrees.

Following his medical residency at Yale University, Barrasso made the fateful decision to relocate to Wyoming, where he established a successful orthopedics practice in Casper.

Barrasso’s political journey began in 1996 when he made his first bid for the U.S. Senate, narrowly missing the Republican primary nomination.

Undeterred by the setback, he continued to serve his community, eventually securing a seat in the Wyoming State Senate in 2002.

His tenure in the state Senate was marked by a dedication to fiscal responsibility, limited government, and traditional conservative principles.

In 2007, Barrasso’s trajectory in politics took a pivotal turn with his appointment to the United States Senate following the untimely passing of incumbent Senator Craig L. Thomas.

Since then, he has been a tireless advocate for Wyoming’s interests on the national stage, earning the trust and respect of his constituents through his principled leadership and unwavering commitment to their well-being.

As the dean of Wyoming’s congressional delegation and Chair of the Senate Republican Conference since 2019, Barrasso occupies a prominent position of influence within the Senate Republican caucus.

His leadership role underscores his stature as a seasoned statesman and a trusted voice within the party.
