Gilbert syndrome is characterized by elevated levels of bilirubin in the blood, which can give the eyes a yellowish hue. Bilirubin is a yellow pigment formed during the breakdown of red blood cells and is typically processed by the liver.
When the liver doesn’t process bilirubin properly, it can accumulate in the bloodstream, leading to symptoms like yellowing of the skin and eyes.
Despite the distinctive appearance, Gilbert syndrome is generally considered harmless and doesn’t require treatment.
Joey Graziadei’s openness about his condition sheds light on a lesser-known medical condition and serves as a reminder of the importance of embracing one’s uniqueness.
