He died peacefully in the hospital on February 28, 2024. Virgil, also known as Soul Train Jones during his wrestling career, had been diagnosed with dementia in 2022 and had faced health challenges, including suffering two strokes.
Several current and former pro wrestlers remembered Virgil on social media Wednesday, including Jake “The Snake” Roberts, Hacksaw Jim Duggan, Matt Hardy, Marc Mero and Frankie Kazarian.
When Virgil joined the WWE in 1986 and started competing as Lucius Brown, that was his big break. However, it wasn’t until 1987 that he really came into his own.
He was given a new name by WWE, Virgil, and assigned to protect Million Dollar Man Ted DiBiase, one of the top heels in pro wrestling from the late 1980s to the early 1990s.

Virgil wrestled occasionally while serving as DiBiase’s bodyguard, although he nearly always interfered in Million Dollar Man’s matches and frequently assisted him in winning.

With Virgil by his side, DiBiase purchased the WWE Championship from Andre the Giant, although he was never officially recognized by WWE as champion. That prompted him to create and defend the Million Dollar Championship.
The Virgil character became fed up with DiBiase’s tyrannical ways in 1991, as Virgil turned on DiBiase at Royal Rumble 1991 after their tag team win over Dusty and Dustin Rhodes.
After being insulted and slapped by DiBiase, Virgil decided to take matters into his own hands and become a babyface.
At WrestleMania 6, Virgil defeated DiBiase via count-out. Later, at SummerSlam 1991, Virgil had his greatest career triumph by defeating DiBiase for the Million Dollar Championship.
Even though DiBiase reclaimed the title after three months, Virgil is still only one of six Superstars in WWE history to hold the title of Million Dollar Champion.
After leaving WWE in 1994, Virgil had a short comeback in 1995 before joining WCW in 1996.
Vincent was mostly utilized as an enhancement skill, but because he was a member of nWo, he was frequently featured in important angles.
After Virgil’s 2000 retirement from professional wrestling, he briefly made a comeback to the WWE in 2010 as Ted DiBiase Jr.’s bodyguard.
Subsequently, Virgil joined Chris Jericho’s Inner Circle stable and performed for AEW in 2019 and 2020 under the moniker Soul Train Jones.
