Pink Shirt Day originated in Canada in 2007 when two high school students, David Shepherd and Travis Price, decided to take a stand against bullying. They bought and distributed pink shirts after a fellow student was bullied for wearing a pink shirt to school.

This act of solidarity sparked a worldwide movement, and Pink Shirt Day is now recognized in various countries, with the official United Nations holiday being May 4th. In Canada, it’s celebrated in February. The day encourages people to wear pink shirts to show their stand against all forms of bullying.

On the other hand, the International Day of Pink, also originating in Canada, is held annually during the second week of April. While it also seeks to end all forms of bullying, it has a more specific focus on anti-LGBTQ+ bullying. The day encourages people to wear pink to show their stand against homophobia, transphobia, and all forms of bullying.

In summary, while both Pink Shirt Day and the International Day of Pink are anti-bullying initiatives that encourage the wearing of pink, Pink Shirt Day has a broader focus on all forms of bullying, while the International Day of Pink specifically targets anti-LGBTQ+ bullying.
