The couple settled in Santa Rosa, California, where Elmer worked as a pressman for the Santa Rosa Democrat. Together, they welcomed a daughter named Laureen into their lives, embodying the joy and fulfillment that marriage can bring.

However, their union was not without its challenges, and Edith faced the heartache of widowhood when Elmer passed away in 1984.
