Micheline Presle, the celebrated French actress whose groundbreaking performance in Devil in the Flesh launched a remarkable career, passed away at the age of 101.

Her son-in-law, Olivier Bomsel, confirmed her death on Wednesday in Nogent-sur-Marne, a suburb of Paris, to Le Figaro.

Presle gained widespread recognition for her portrayal of a nurse engaged in a scandalous affair with a student (Gérard Philipe) in the World War I drama Devil in the Flesh (1947), a role that earned critical acclaim and was honored by the National Board of Review as one of the top 10 films of the year.

Following her breakout role, she caught the attention of 20th Century Fox, which signed her and changed her surname to Prelle. Her subsequent roles included playing a café owner who falls for a deceitful jockey (John Garfield) in Jean Negulesco’s Under My Skin (1950). She also starred alongside Tyrone Power in the Technicolor war film American Guerrilla in the Philippines (1950) and appeared in The Adventures of Captain Fabian (1951).

Presle’s legacy extends far beyond these iconic performances, with her contributions to cinema leaving an indelible mark on audiences worldwide.
