Australian author Marion Mildred Halligan AM. Before publishing her debut collection of short tales, she was born and raised in Newcastle, New South Wales, and worked as a journalist and school teacher.

The 16th of April 1940 saw the birth of Marion Mildred Halligan in Newcastle, New South Wales. The “Canberra Seven” or “Seven Writers” was a group of female authors headquartered in Canberra that she belonged to for many years.

Marian Eldridge passed away in 1997, therefore ending the group’s existence. But before that, in 1988, they released Canberra Tales, a collection of short stories, and got together regularly to review each other’s work. At the age of 83, Halligan passed away on February 19, 2024.
