Australian writer Marion Mildred Halligan AM. Before releasing her debut collection of short tales, she was employed as a journalist and a school teacher in Newcastle, New South Wales, where she was born and raised.

16 April 1940 saw the birth of Marion Mildred Halligan in Newcastle, New South Wales. She belonged to the “Canberra Seven” or “Seven Writers,” a group of female authors headquartered in Canberra, for many years.
After Marian Eldridge passed away in 1997, the group virtually broke apart. But before then, they had regular meetings to discuss and evaluate each other’s work, and in 1988 they published Canberra Tales, a collection of short stories. At the age of eighty-three, Halligan passed away on February 19, 2024.
