Riichard Martinez, the creator of Planet Fitness, purchased a struggling Gold’s Gym franchise in New Hampshire in 1992. They eventually shuttered the old site, launched Coastal Fitness, and hired a third partner, former CEO Chris Rondeau.
In 2020, the corporation came under fire for collecting clients for March dues “despite closing its facilities nationwide due to the novel coronavirus pandemic.”
