This part was featured in both the original Cranford series back in 2007 and its sequel, Return to Cranford, in 2009. Interestingly, Bessie’s parents, Imelda Staunton and Jim Carter, also had roles in the series, portraying Miss Octavia Pole and Captain Brown respectively.
It’s easy to mix up names or recall things differently, but Bessie Carter’s portrayal of Margaret Gidman was certainly memorable.
Her presence added depth to the already colorful cast of characters in the cherished Cranford tale.
